Genuine Shimano EC-E8004-2 42V 4A STEPS Fast Charger for compatible Shimano 36V lithium-ion eBike battery systems.

The EC-E8004-2 is Shimano's high-output North American charger and can serve as a replacement charger, second charger, or a substantial fast-charging upgrade from the slower EC-E6002 on compatible Shimano batteries.

This is a genuine Shimano charger.

Important: A Shimano motor does not automatically mean your bike uses a Shimano battery or this charging system. Compatibility must be verified by battery model and charging architecture before ordering.

Do not buy this charger solely because your bicycle has a Shimano motor.

Shimano drive units are used by bicycle manufacturers with both genuine Shimano batteries and third-party battery systems. A bike equipped with a Shimano E7000, E8000, EP8, EP800, or EP801 drive unit does not automatically use the EC-E8004 charging architecture.

  • Locate the battery manufacturer's label.
  • Confirm that the bicycle actually uses a genuine Shimano battery system.
  • Locate the exact Shimano battery model number.
  • Compare the battery model with the compatible battery families listed above.

Shimano Motor Does Not Equal Shimano Battery

This distinction is especially important on eMTBs.

Bicycles using Shimano E7000, E8000, EP8, EP800, or EP801 motors can use different battery and charging systems depending on the bicycle manufacturer.

For example, some Shimano-powered bikes use proprietary or third-party battery systems with completely different chargers. A Shimano drive unit therefore cannot be used by itself to determine EC-E8004 compatibility.

Battery system compatibility is the determining factor.
