Smart Charger Architecture

This is not a generic two-wire 42V battery charger.

The charging system uses positive and negative charging power together with CAN H, CAN L and a PRESENT connection. The battery management system and charger therefore use a smart charging architecture rather than relying solely on DC voltage.

A charger may have the same 42V output and a physically similar connector and still be electronically incompatible.

Correct charger compatibility depends on the complete system, including:

36V Battery / 42V Charger

This charger is intended for compatible 36V nominal lithium-ion eBike battery systems.

A 36V nominal lithium-ion battery commonly reaches approximately 42V when fully charged, so a 42V charger output is normal for this battery architecture.

Application & Replacement Reference

Pivot Shuttle

Pivot documentation confirms Shimano-equipped Shuttle systems using Darfon batteries and charging hardware. Older Shuttle documentation identifies a Darfon 720Wh battery and Darfon charging system. Pivot also identifies off-bike charging adapter 5J.E4C0C.020 for this system.

Important: Pivot has used multiple Darfon battery and charger generations. Later Shuttle LT systems document different Darfon charger versions, so verify your original charger, connector and pinout before ordering.

Fezzari / Ari Wire Peak

Select Fezzari / Ari Wire Peak models use Darfon 36V battery systems with Shimano drive units. Compatibility should be verified against the original charger and 5-pin charging connector because battery and charging systems have changed across Wire Peak generations.
